Well, we did it. We survived the first year. I can’t believe it, but we have a toddler on our hands, folks. I used to get so irritated when people would say, “it goes so fast,” but of course, it does.

We had quite the bash this past Saturday. It was Nola’s birthday on Saturday and her boyfriend Kiy’s birthday on May 7th. I figured it would be fun to join forces and celebrate the little rug rats’ birthdays together.

Check out this crowd:

There are probably just as many people behind the camera since most people brought their partners with them. The weather was fabulous and we were able to play outside in the yard. Nola worked the crowd, welcoming them to her house and suggesting that they make themselves at home. She ate her first cupcake. After poking the top of it for a while she devoured it in about a minute.

I uploaded all the pictures to flickr (I’ve been really bad about uploading pics, but I’ll try to get better about that). Bill just happened to be in town so he crashed the party, Amy Clay and Josh came, and Nola’s godfather Chris came up from New York City. Nola absolutely loved him. I think I might know why…here he’s letting her play a video game on his computer:

For the party I cooked up a bunch of Southern food and we partied all afternoon. I didn’t take a picture of the food, which is a shame, but here’s the menu: Memphis-style pulled pork, dill-stuffed eggs (a.k.a. “deviled eggs”), pimento cheese sandwiches, and boiled peanuts. For dessert – carrot cake cupcakes. Yum!

Can you tell I’ve been more than a little bit homesick? Nola and I are traveling to Louisiana for a family reunion this weekend where I plan to eat my weight in fried seafood.

First, the pulled pork, sweet tea and cupcakes were scrumptious.

Now about me letting Nola play a video game on my computer…I was trying to show her the wear-n-tear a Mac can really take. Of course the only thing that came of that was her beating my high score on Qbert.

Happy Birthday Nola! What a fun, baby-filled party. I love Nola’s leopard print bib. Very stylish.
